Alison Brooks participated in a panel discussion at Ecobuild 2015.
The imbalance between housing demand and supply means housebuilders aren’t under pressure to invest in high quality design to gain market share. This results in mediocre identikit housing and poor public realm which is unappealing for residents. Little thought is given to promoting more sustainable lifestyles including walking and cycling rather than driving and activities including growing food. Can anything be done to improve the quality of housing design which will ensure long-term appeal and therefore greater longevity for schemes?
